Cooby local Raylene Clayton posted on the Cooby Chronicles page about the idea of projecting a light show on Cooby’s Water Towers. The post went off! She met up with Councillor Philip Eva to test the idea further, and he successfully put forward a motion to City of Cockburn for them to investigate the project with the Water Corp and state government at the 10th June Council meeting. Woohoo!!
Then on Thursday 12th of June, Coolbellup Community Association met up with Raylene and Philip Eva. We had also met with Illuminart who did the beautiful light installation that Raylene had shared on FB. Our very early research indicates this project could be very doable and that it could be a good fit for Lotterywest funding.
Stage 1. Visioning/ Feasibility – includes seeking permission from the Water Corporation, who owns the towers and land, undertaking community engagement, environmental impact etc. investigations, making sure it is possible. Then detailed plans can be created, so around $25K is required before anything can be built.
Stage 2. Design & Installation – development of the physical projection system. This will be weather proof, vandal proof and behind an electric fence.
Stage 3. Content Development & Programming – building and delivering stories for projection.
On Friday, we all gathered in front of the water towers with Sook Yee Lai MLA for a photoshoot with Fremantle Herald to publicise the idea and continue the momentum.
The Coolbellup Community Association’s intention is to support the project, along with other stakeholders, aiming to ensure
Raylene’s vision comes to fruition. It might not be done in five minutes, but we all feel very inspired and keen to progress this awesome project.
We 💚 Cooby!
